Exposed and concealed installation faucets

My exposed installation tap is leaking at the connections. What’s causing it?

Before installing the tap, please make sure that the S-connections – to compensate for different dimensions – are installed without tension and that the specified installation dimensions have been observed. Using the original seals is mandatory. Any damaged seals need to be replaced.

Can I upgrade older concealed installation tap to a new design?

In many cases, yes you can upgrade to a new design. If the concealed installation hansgrohe iBox Universal base set is installed, you will find a wide range of modern pre-fab sets – flat control elements found on the wall – in the hansgrohe and AXOR ranges. The new base set generation, the iBox universal 2, can be combined with all previous and future hansgrohe and AXOR pre-fab sets. If the range is older, an adapter plate will be required for the installation.

Tips & tricks

What is the difference between a shower thermostat and shower tap?

A shower thermostat allows you to pre-set how warm the shower water should get. It can also activate a temperature lock at 40 degrees Celsius, for example. This hot-water block offers reliable protection against unpleasantly hot water or even scalding. The shower thermostat features a chamber where cold and hot water are mixed in the shower to adjust the water temperature and keep it stable for the entirety of the shower. A shower tap does not have this mixing chamber. Here, you regulate the water temperature and flow by hand when showering and constantly readjust it to your current needs.

How do I reduce the loudness of the water flow or knocking sounds in my shower tap?

Loose parts or high water pressure are possible causes of the noisy water flow or knocking sounds in your shower tap. Contact a local specialist so that they can pinpoint and fix the noises.

The thermostat is buzzing and not keeping the temperature constant. What’s causing this?

The non-return valve is dirty or defective. Please replace it. You can find information on the necessary installation steps in the enclosed service instructions. Or look in our online Spare Parts Shop.

My shower thermostat has been installed but only hot or cold water comes out. Why might this be?

This might have been caused by the hot and cold water connections getting mixed up. If this has happened, hansgrohe has a solution for almost every product. You can find the spare parts number in the thermostat’s installation manual. Or you can look it up in our online Spare Parts Shop.

The thermostat handle is difficult to operate. How can this problem be rectified?

There are several possible reasons for the handle being stiff. For example, deposits on the sealing surfaces may lead to stiffness. Please replace the component by following the instructions in the enclosed installation manual. You can find more information in our online Spare Parts Shop.

Which tap is suitable for which shower?

You can conveniently control a single shower head with one single-hole shower tap in either a concealed or an exposed installation design, depending on your design preferences. The lever handle is convenient for all users to operate. When renovating, exposed installation tap can be simply fitted on existing connections. A shower thermostat offers added comfort, as it reliably protects you against fluctuations in the water pipe.

You can intuitively control one consumer (= a shower head) using an exposed installation thermostat. For two consumers, you could use a hansgrohe shower pipe (= an exposed installation shower system) that connects the two shower heads to a thermostat and is placed on existing connections. For two or more consumers, a concealed installation shower thermostat is a beautiful and beneficial solution. You can find plenty of information about concealed and exposed installation, shower technologies, and shower planning in our guide.
